Is blocking solar rays the last resort?
A Glass Earth, shading the planet to cool it down?
It feels weird to think these things up in my subconscious, I’ve had a few dreams where we somehow fixed climate change and solved more issues.
Somehow we got a platform in orbit and constructed a tower downwards towards the earth. From this, we moved materials and equipment up there and built construction facilities directly in space. This increased our ability to quickly send out exploration probes and recover debris from old orbiting satellites. With more advances in new materials and technology, the platform expanded without shading much of the world and providing new power production technologies via enhanced solar and thermal.
But the world was still getting a hefty couple of degrees hotter still, or it was until a solar sail was deployed along a section of the platform. It was providing a bit of shade and reduced surface temperatures. Eventually, a sail was produced to allow cooled sunlight through allowing a decent 20 degrees over Europe and the equator.
This did mean that some areas such as Artic got more hours of Darkness, along with heat exchangers floating around got the area’s ice replenished
Cargo materials were fired up into orbit using railgun-type runways after rockets were retired.
What summoned this dream?
Probably the fact that Summer is trying to kill me with far too much heat and humidity.
Possibly the news is that Scientists are looking at placing some bubble-type material out in space between the Sun and Earth for the same cooling effect. Also, heat pumps will help in that regard, probably more on those soon. Oh, and I was writing a weather API for a dashboard system.
