Yes okay, I’m excited.
But also anxious and worried. Suspect this is the Unreal Engine 5 project they’ve been advertised jobs for and working on for years, which is slightly worrying for people with older hardware as its still an pain in the arse to optimize for hardware.
Here’s the trailer we got during Summer GamesFest:
Its set around 1000 (1200ish from press release) years before Guild Wars 1 in Orr, this could mean:
- No Sylvari? Unless theres some oddities going on.
- No Elder Dragons, they are in deep sleep (10,000 year cycles, which Guild Wars 1/2 cut short)
- The Original 6 Gods are about (Dwayna, Abaddon, Dhuum/Grenth, Lyssa, Balthazar and Melandru), so this would before Abaddon’s fall or Dhuum’s imprisonment (Grenth is said to already be in Dhuum’s place), maybe the newly arrived Humans getting magic and the chaos after is the story?
- Asura and Kodan appear in the trailer, not sure why Asura would be on the surface, or why Kodans are in Orr as are the cold far north like the Norns. There are some hints in Guild Wars 2’s expansion stories that the Kodan traveled that far.
- Dwarfs? They are an old race with Guild Wars 1 telling us they tunnelled to Cantha and beyond. So surely they’ll make an appearance?
- New creatures, sheep have appeared in concept art. Maybe we’ll finally see the mythical horses? (we’ve all seen Gumdrops, the invisible horse that Mad King Thorn has)
Hopes and Dreams
Beta tests are penciled for mid 2027, I hope it gets really optimized and fleshed out with what the game is and its aim by then. My current gaming rig won’t run it and its elderly, so will need a new system when our tech and AI overlords allow us nice things.
