What’s Happening?
Eleventy is changing, getting a new funding model and aligning with FontAwesome for a Kickstarter campaign, per Official Announcement.
I’m not really a fan of FontAwesome, I feel while they try to help developers like me with resources for projects, they tend to muddy the water with changing legal scopes and endless loops of hunting said resources along with locking it behind payment systems.
What changes?
In theory, nothing should apart from some name changing.
- Eleventy 4.0 will release as Build-Awesome 4.0
- package/github versions of Eleventy/Build-Awesome should still be free to use
- Premium parts will be better support and a ‘website builder’ sort of thing.
What I’m considering doing for now
I’m confident that I can stick with 11ty/Build-Awesome for my main setup. Anything more dynamic/demanding I’ll look at integration or something else.
Maybe I’ll go back to WordPress headless, but deploying a WordPress-in-a-Box system to use Gutenberg for visual designing is on the cards for now.
